MM 898 Cocoa Village Marina
This will be short and sweet - a perfect day, best yet for us on the water this trip !Started out in some fog, but the ICW was like glass. I am no photographer, especially without the good camera, but the pictures were unreal today with everything reflecting on the water. We also saw dolphins as we started out which is always a good luck charm for the day. Once the early morning fog cleared, (55 degrees, 55 dew point, 100 % humidity), the day was sunny , warm, and light winds. The toe bomb (aptly named by Jon because I complained all night that it felt like it was going to explode), is much improved today pain wise, but the real bruising and color popped out today. (BTW – I would not have complained so much if Jon had just acknowledged my trauma in the first place, but he was acting like it is an every day occurrence for one to almost get their toe amputated, followed by an olive sized hematoma on the bottom of the toe – so I showed him, I whined about it for hours, and I can whine …..) We arrived at the marina around 2:00 PM, so we had a nice afternoon of r and r, and took Crew for a much deserved long walk. Jon and I really like Cocoa village – kind of a very mini St Augustine. Tonight we went to dinner, and as we arrived, our friends and neighbor from Palm Coast, Jill and David were just leaving. It is a small word. When we passed Vero Beach yesterday, I tried to hail them on the radio. I was a bit nervous about it, because you really should use channel 16 judiciously, so I kind of whispered when I hailed them, words to the effect, hailing sailing vessel Shibumi, sailing vessel Shibumi, over – but no response., Totally threw them under the bus by not divulging we were Trawler Sundance just in case the Coast Guard was listening, but I knew they would forgive us. I am still nervous about the Coast Guard after being boarded in New York City, then hailing a Coast Guard cutter off the Coast of Maryland last year, by accident, when we were in Jacksonville FL. and I wanted to know the current flow under a particular bridge ….. Anyway, Jill being a good friend, immediately commented that my toe looked awful, and I was happy she noticed and made sure Jon was aware of how noticeable the injury was to a caring and observant person ! When we got back to the boat tonight, Kathy called to say they hope to make it New Smyrna tomorrow night as Jim has their boat ready to go. So, God willing, and all things good are in our favor, we will see Jim and Kathy tomorrow night for dinner. I have posted allot of pictures today, because it was just so beautiful, I could not let the moments pass undocumented.

Happy Easter ! We awoke the morning to a gorgeous day – very grateful, and thanking God for all of our blessings. The Easter bunny found us, and left a blue crab belt for the old crab. Now Jon did not think this was funny – see what I mean ? Jon went out to the dock, then quickly returned to tell me that a boat had sunk overnight. He said when he went out and saw our boat surrounded by diesel, he thought it was our boat – leaking - for once – not us ! It turns out the boat was supposed to be headed to the Bahamas this AM, but the people on board were awake when the boat sank and were able to get off safely. Not sure yet exactly what happened, maybe later today we will hear. We had brunch next door with Jim and Kathy, and will throwing together an impromptu Easter dinner tonight. Today’s plan is to do absolutely nothing – now that is a good day !

MM 802 Home – Palm Coast
Yesterday afternoon we strolled around New Smyrna trying to get the odometers spinning, and to plot out our plan of where to watch the space shuttle on the bridge. We ate dinner on Jim and Kathy’s boat, along with their friends, Bob and Pat, and Don. It was a fun way to spend Easter, being on the water and surrounded by beauty and friends.
We planned to rendez vous this AM at 5:45 AM, to give us time to walk to the bridge. We thought we were very clever picking the highest part of the bridge, but as we started to walk onto the bridge, we realized the entire length of the bridge was packed with cars who had all stolen our idea of where to watch the shuttle from. We were able to find a spot with a clearing at the top of the bridge. About five minutes before the shuttle took off, a guy started to back into where we were standing. The car on one side of us was flashing his lights at him, so he pulled up and hit the car in front of him, then jumped out of his car and started yelling at us for not moving. The guy who had flashed his lights, then jumped out of his car, and began yelling what a jerk the other guy was, and that’s how the shuttle launch started ! Once the launch took off, it was quite spectacular – the sky aglow. I would post the pictures, but the minute I went to snap a picture, my camera died – yep – no can do. I was forced to just enjoy the moment, and the delayed sound of the take off that reached us after the shuttle had already flown over was amazing. The shuttle’s trail left in the sky was actually quite beautiful, and as the sun began to rise, it made for perfect “sky art.” Everyone left the bridge, and do men everyone, every car person, motorcycle, except for Jon, Kathy and I. We watched the sun rise begin to light the morning, and Kathy and I treated Jon to our loudest singing voices belting out Monday Monday by the Mammas and the Papas.
We got back to the Marina, then Jon, Crew and I shoved off at about 7:50 AM, and arrived at our house at 2:00 PM. Overall, I would say it was successful trip as I arrived home with all of my body parts in somewhat working order, Jon and I are still speaking, and Sundance ran perfectly for the last leg of the trip. So, all is well………..
Till next time – I remain – Convivial !
