Tues. 9-18-12 Goldener Hirsch Inn Park City Utah
Yesterday we drove half way to Park City and overnighted in Rawlins Wy. We stopped in Custer SD on our way to visit the Woodcarvers Museum. It was a great tour and there was a carver who was very interesting to talk to and to watch carve. We bought some really cool carvings. We passed through some beautiful scenery but everything was hazy because of all of the forest fires in this whole area. There is a really big one that was threatening Jackson Hole and is still only 40 % contained – so glad we started our trip there instead of trying to get in there now ! Today we continued west and decided to make a detour to the Fossil Butte National Park for the stamp for our Passbook course ! We arrived here at the Inn late afternoon. I am so glad we are here for our last two nights, it is just a beautiful place – you feel like you are in an Alpine Lodge complete with a fireplace and big puffy down comforters. We are celebrating our 19th anniversary today and will be heading out to the Stein Erik Lodge which is next door for dinner tonight – We are really high up – now I get what this altitude thing is about !

Thurs. 9-20-12 Flying somewhere over the Mississippi River
We had a wonderful meal Tues. night. The food this trip has really been sub par so having a good meal was a treat ! Yesterday was my actual birthday not to be confused with my birthday month which is still continuing. We headed to Main Street in Park City which is nestled in the mountains, and full of wonderful little shops and lots of restaurants. We shopped and walked in the AM, had lunch in town, then drove out to the 2002 venue for the Olympics where they held the ski jumping, bobsled and luge competitions. We took a tour of the park which included standing and looking down the slope of the 120 meter ski jump ! They had lots of athletes practicing their free style skiing which consisted of them skiing down ramps with various sized jumps. The skiiers would do their tricks then land in a pool that aerated with bubbles to soften the landing. I thought about giving it a whirl, but I figured if the walk up 1,000 stairs carrying all my ski gear did not kill me, if I actually made it down the ramp, off of the jump, the landing would certainly do me in ! We did want to try the bobsled run but it was only open on weekends…… Jon and I both fell in love with Park City and could easily picture ourselves settling in there. We ate dinner at the Inn last night and the staff all bent over backwards to make sure it was not ony a fabulous meal, but a fun birthday celebration. After driving 3,200 miles, taking 1,000,000 pictures, gaining about 30 pounds as well as my suitcase gaining 15 pounds, we are now heading back to the Cape, and you can bet I will be getting busy planning our next adventure, so until then –
