Freeport Bahamas Bahamas February 2011
I arrived in Palm Coast Wednesday night, 2-9-11, then we left for Orlando on Friday to spend the night before we flew over to the Bahamas. We went to the Freeport Bahamas to have a Valentine's getaway with our neighbors, Ken and Beth and Jim and Kathy. We had a rough start because Kathy's flights from a business trip to Orlando got messed up and she got stuck in Atlanta. Then, much to my dismay, when we arrived at the hotel in Orlando I had booked for Jon and I, I leaned that I had mistakenly sent the wrong link to Jim and Kathy and Ken and Beth who were booked t another hotel. Luckily, James at the check in desk initially pity on us and was able to arrange for us all to stay at the same hotel. We became quite friendly with James and were getting along famously, at least in my opinion, and when I suggested that maybe James could drive us to Atlanta to pick Kathy up, he responded he rather be dead than spend four hours in a car with Beth and me - I am pretty sure he was only joking.......
Kathy finally arrived around 6:30 PM, we went to dinner, then were off to the airport the next morning at 6:00 AM. We had a somewhat uneventful flight to Freeport, if you do not include our mad dash through the Miami airport where we made our connection at the last call for boarding. We arrived at the Viva Wyndham, an inclusive resort around 11:30 AM. Everything was included here, so we celebrated our arrival with lunch and bevvies while we waited for our room. We all "eventually" ended up in a very nice section of the resort with beach views and all were happy. We quickly realized we were at adult version of a summer camp which included non stop activities like various games, dancing lessons, tennis, archery, hobie cats, kayaks, windsurfers, bikes, and of course a flying trapeze. Yes, Jim, Kathy and I all did the flying trapeze, not with the greatest of ease, but I can cross it off of my bucket list even though it wasn't really there to start with ! We also were able to help Ken and Beth celebrate their anniversary on Valentine’s Day all decked out in our Valentine’s day garb.
We fell into an easy routine that started with coffee on our balcony, breakfast, a long walk on the beach, then a morning activity of some sort, then lunch, afternoon activity, nap, cocktails, dinner, different show every night, pizza, dancing on the way walking back to our rooms, then bed.
We did explore the island one day with a rental car, and then on bikes, then went one afternoon into Port Lucaya shopping.
It was cold in Freeport, but we it did not interfere with us having an absolute blast, and feeling like kids again with joy and laughter abundant ! The guys always accuse Beth, Kathy and I of being loud when we are together and that we spend an inordinate amount of time laughing at ridiculous things, we just find that hard to imagine. We would love to go back if they will let us, but we will probably have to let some time pass so that the staff’s memory of how much we enjoyed ourselves, fades away a bit ….
