Kati Kati Lodge. Serengeti
We left this AM and drove back through Ngorogoro Park. We took a different route through authentic Massai tribe villages. We drove for over two hours and only saw 2 other cars. We passed lots of little kids herding cattle who would run to the side of the road. We saw several warriors who were traveling to another village carrying their spears. We were off road crossing streams, barely worn paths, quite the four wheel experience. We then entered the area on the other side of the crater that was teaming with wild life. We added cheetahs to our list, a huge herd of giraffes, more lions, birds camels, ostriches, zebras, wilderbeasts, so surreal. We parked next to three lions so close we could touch them and just watched them....... We got into camp around 6:00 PM. We are in the very last tent on the edge of the property. You are not allowed out of the tent after dusk or before dawn without an escort. There are emergency whistles to blow if you have any problems. We had showers from a guy who got on a ladder on the top of the tent and filled buckets with the perfect temperature waster for showering. We then went to the main tent where we were served a delish dinner. Tomorrow we head to look for the wilderbeasts migration and hopefully see some babies being born. We also would like to see a jaguar so we can experience the big five, elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, hippos however our guide told us he only sees maybe one or two a year......

We headed out after a big breakfast. Before we left we met two couples from Grafton Ma., small world........ The first new animal we saw were some dik diks which look like a cross between tiny deer and a rabbit. We then saw some sambas, then we saw a small cat, some giraffes. A short while later, we then entered into the zebra migration. There were literally 100s of thousands of zebras, pregnant mamas, little babies, youths. There are no words, just zebras as for as far as the eye could see. We went to a lake that was full of zebras and some hippos. We then saw two male lions and a female, followed by a mama lion and 2 two year old Cubs. We saw some Elans, more wilderbeasts. We ate lunch amongst zebras, the saw a fresh dead carcass of a huge Elan being guarded by a lion. A bit off the to the side was a pride of about 8 lions all resting after the big meal. The area has hyenas all crawling around, and lots of buzzards all waiting for the Guard lion to leave. It was getting on into the afternoon and time to head home when Ray spotted a leopard. We drove right up the tree and got amazing photos ! The leopard was so camaflouged we have no idea how Ray ever spotted him ! It really was thrilling... We got back and had our bucket showers, cocktails and another good dinner. We never did find the wildebeest migration so it is on our list for tomorrow.

Today we drove into the central part of the Serengetti. We drove through several different topography including the high desert and grassy plains. As we drove in you could see forever and we drove and drove until we came to a series of all of these random out toppings of rocks. We kept driving looking into rocks for lions. We saw a cheetah first which we looked at for a long time. Then, lion after lion ! We saw a pride of 15 with lots of Cubs, we watched another mating couple, another cheetah, a pride of lions laying in the road, all so close you could touch them ! We also saw the usual animals, large flocks of ostriches, zebras, gazelle, Elon topis, giraffes, The scenery was so different from what we have seen so far My favorite bird is the Corey buster, the name alone makes me smile..... This whole experience has far surpassed our last safari in Namibia, the abundance of wildlife overwhelming. I was nervous about the whole tent experience but it also has been amazing and very comfortable and accommodating. I did not think I could sleep at night without my white noise machine, but actually I Have slept really well, and have really savoy red the quiet. Tomorrow we head back south to Tarangine where we will spend our last two nights, don't want this to end..........
