Fri 10-5-18
Up at 4:30 am for a 5:30 am pick up for the airport. Barre picked us up around 11:00 and we went to their home. They are in a mature old neighborhood of beautiful grand homes that abut the Elbe River. There are woods and parks everywhere. We went the grocery store to stock up for the weekend, fun to be in a German grocery store. Food prices were actually lower than what we pay in States. After kids got home from school, played outside in unseasonably warm, 70 degree, sunny day. Very welcome after the cold and cloudy weather we have had most of our trip. We cooked supper and spent night playing with kids, David and Barre went out to celebrate the 11th anniversary.

Took ferry from about a five minute walk into downtown Hamburg. We walked along the river and had an early lunch on the waterfront. We then took a scenic boat tour on the Elbe River and some of the side canals. We walked a bit more, then took train back to house which was about a ten minute walk through the park to get back to the house. We cooked brats and sausages for dinner, German cuisine extrodanairre !

This am was a highlight for sure for Jon. We went to the Miniature Wonderland which is one the largest railroad layouts in the world. It was amazing. Several floors of different layouts. They had the entire city of Hamburg complete with planes landing anf taking off from the airport. They had waterfront scenes with boats moving through the water, Pompeii with an exploding volcano, Switzerland with skiers anf gondolas, Las Vegas, beaches, lakes forests, you name it, they had it ! I also think they had every type is small fauve trains ever made ! Afterward, we drove up to a beautiful little town called Blankenship. We ate at a big Sunday dinner/lunch at a very quaint Italian restaraunt, then had had a lazy stroll by the river. Blake opened his birthday presents before dinner since we will be in Denmark for his birthday, then we made a late supper. Road trip to Denmark tomorrow!
