Thurs. 9-6-12 Jackson Hole Wyoming – Elks Country Inn
We had an uneventful flight to Salt Lake City, picked up our rental car and headed off on our adventure. The one constant is everywhere you look is a picture. We arrived late afternoon to the No tell Motel 8 in Montpelier Idaho. There is not much at all in Montpelier which was good for us because we got to bed early. After much serious deliberation on whether to eat at the Pizza place or the Mexican Place, the Mexican place won because Margaritas were calling my name. Only one problem – dry town – uugghhhh…… Anyway up early and arrived in Jackson Hole late AM. I am not someone who is fussy, but my bangs were driving me insane to the point I was getting ready to cut them myself with my cuticle scissors. Luckily there as a hair salon across from our hotel so after a quick snip of the bangs, we set off and explored the town. Early afternoon we headed over to Teton Village and took the tram which provided us with an amazing view, then had lunch at the Mangy Moose – kind of a local landmark . We then drove the Teton Pass that was full of narrow roads and curves galore. We got back late aternoon to check in, and after only a wee bit of complaining by me to the front desk about our room, we were upgraded to a cottage. It was a hot and sunny evening perfect for sipping cocktails on our porch watching the sun slip down.
This morning we set off to explore Teton national park. I am not saying we are old foggies now, but we bought a national park passport book that you get stamped at all of the national parks – we are now living on the wild side !! The day started out chilly and a bit cloudy and progressed to light rain off and on. It actually was very pretty providing us with a whole new palette from yesterday’s viewings. The mountain tops eventually hid behind the clouds preventing good afternoon pictures. It is probably a blessing for anyone that I will force to look at my pictures, because I did manage to get a good 500 pictures already. We headed up to Jackson Lake with lots of stops on our way. We had a fun picnic lunch, and did some hiking around Jenny Lake. We caught a group of wild Elk, and then a moose family of poppa, momma and a baby. Momma and baby were laying down behind some bushes so only photoed a bit of them, but got lots of pics of poppa. We are back getting ready to go to dinner a bit later. Conversation today between Jon and I. Me: Was Yogi bear from Yeosemtie Park or Yellowstone Park ? Jon: Try Jellystone Park Me: OK………..
