Trawlers Rock
Cabarete, Dominican Republic
11/4/08 to 11/15/08
Susan's family all headed to Cabarete, DR to celebrate Susan's mom's 75 th birthday. We were Susan and Jon, Susan's brother - Richard and wife - Lorraine, Susan's mom - Darlene, Susan's mom's sister - Linda, and Susan's mom's two nieces - Jacqui( also Susan's god daughter) and Jennifer AKA: Susan's aunt and Susan's cousins.
Cabarete is located on the north east shore of the Dominican Republic. We all stayed at the Nanny Estates in individual condos. It was a beautiful property - each condo had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, patios, roof top patios, living rooms and fully stocked kitchens. The property was about a 15 minute walk to the town center, or a $7.00 cab ride. Speaking of cabs - the mode of transport was either cabs, or motorbikes which were everywhere !! Cabarete is known as an international kite boarding destination, and all of Cabarete is really geared toward water sports.
We had beautiful weather, a fabulous oceanfront location, and were surrounded by very friendly and engaging people. Three of us managed to get sick which mandated ten days of Flagyl which meant no alcohol, but we know this can happen anywhere.
We did some day tripping and were lucky enough to be in town for the three day Dominican Jazz festival which took place on the beach in town. There were lots of great local restaurants and shops to choose from, but the best part of the trip was just being with family and R and R at Nanny Estates watching sunrises, sunsets, kite boarders, sail boats, and being hypnotized by the lull of the ocean.
